The short answer
The Mathematics Admissions Test is finished. Oxford ran the MAT from 2007 to 2025; as part of its move to the shared UAT-UK testing system, Oxford replaced it with the TMUA for Mathematics, Computer Science and their joint honours from 2027 entry (applications from autumn 2026). If you're preparing now, prepare for the TMUA.
What actually changed
The MAT was Oxford's own paper: a multiple-choice section plus long-answer questions with written working. The TMUA is fully multiple-choice — two 75-minute papers, twenty questions each, no calculator — and Paper 2 includes logic and proof. It is shared across several universities, but requirements remain course-specific.
If you were preparing for the MAT
Older MAT work may still support mathematical problem solving, but it should not replace the current TMUA specification and official practice material. Check old questions against the current content before using them, and prepare separately for Paper 2's logic-and-proof content using UAT-UK's official resources.
One caution about old advice
Advice that still describes the MAT as Oxford's current test predates the 2026 admissions round. Recheck its score benchmarks, format and timeline against Oxford and UAT-UK before relying on it.
